Women’s group Karlovac “Step”, in partnership with the Croatian Employment Service – Regional Office Karlovac and Home for Elderly and enfeebled St. Antun Karlovac received a European Commission grant under CARDS 2004 programme for the implementation of the project “The Next Step – social cooperative”. The specific objective of the project is to found a social cooperative as a system of employment of long-term unemployed women. In order to achieve its specific objective, the project will, beside other things, provide trainings for long-term unemployed women in care of elderly. The purpose of the training is to offer theoretical and practical knowledge they still lack, to achieve the same level of professionalism of all women from the target group and to implement a standard of working, thus enabling the same and constant service regardless of the person who is performing the task. DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT Objectives Target group of women have standardised knowledge and skills in providing care of elderly. Requested services a. Analyse the specific training needs of the target group (minimally 10 women) as a background for programme development The purpose of the analysis of specific training needs is to determine the level of knowledge and experience of the women in care of elderly and other dependents. The analysis will also determine the most suitable time for the trainings to take place, taking into account the personal obligations of women, especially mothers. The analysis will consist of a questionnaire and an interview with the women. The result of the training needs analysis will be the basis for design of the training programme. b. Design the training programme for care of elderly The programme will, among others, consist of a description of a standard of performance of a certain activity. This standard will also be taught to the women in order for the cooperative to ensure a uniform and guaranteed service of the same quality to all customers. The training programme should be developed in accordance with the following information: - topics: Theoretical part: 1. Demographical ageing – Croatian and Karlovac County statistics, reasons for increased number of elderly people in our society 2. Changes in process of ageing – getting old (biological, psychological, social) and old age; getting old and abilities (sensorial, motorise, cognitive capacities, memorizing, learning, intelligence) 3. Personage adjustment to getting old (social contact of elderly people, family, retiring, habitation 4. What is successful ageing? 5. Intensified needs for health and social care for elderly people 6. Existing systems of help and organization of local community on help for elderly people – Social Welfare Law, institutional care, care outside institution 7. Social capital – investment in civil society - number of hours: 25 hours theoretical part - methodology: theoretical part in form of oral presentation, workshops, role-play - needed materials (enumerate) - expected level of knowledge after the training: independent and quality care and help for elderly people in their home - standard: unified quality of care and help to elderly people materials for distribution: written course notes c. Testing Attendants will be assessed during the practical work (organised separately) and tested orally and in written, in order to evaluate the level of knowledge they have achieved. Also, after the training, attendants will be given an evaluation form in order to evaluate their satisfaction with the training and to self-evaluate the knowledge they have gained. Besides the abovementioned tasks, the service provider will be obliged to report in written about the progress of the training and regularly fill out the time sheets. Expected results The service provider should achieve the following results: a. written report on training needs analysis; b. written programme with aforementioned components; c. written description of standards and procedures in actual work; d. materials for distribution during the training course; e. 25 hours theoretical training with a group of minimally 10 women; f. written tests and their analysis. EXPERTS PROFILE The service provider can be a natural or legal person active in the field of care for elderly. LOCATION AND DURATION Estimated for the end of October 2007.
